Span, Inc.'s Executive Director Lyn Levy presents the 'Person of the Year' award to Mayor Thomas Menino. |
Span, Inc. Honors Mayor Menino for his Commitment to Finding Solutions for the Formerly Imprisoned July 23, 2008 One way in which Span works to bridge the gap between corrections and community is through our Department of Labor-funded workforce development program Pathways to Employment (PTE- formerly known as the Prisoner Re-entry Initiative). For the past four years, Span has collaborated with The Workplace, a member of the Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center system, to provide non-violent ex-offenders with the job search tools they need in order to set career goals and gain employment. At the most recent PTE Graduation Celebration, Span presented Mayor Thomas Menino with the Span 'Person of the Year' Award for his commitment to equal employment opportunities for all Boston residents. |

community and congratulated the number of clients who found work within
the past three years. In his speech Mayor Menino acknowledged
other community programs doing important work for underserved people,
and stated that when everyone works together we are able to affect real
change within the community. City Counselor Chuck Turner, long-time advocate for minorities in Boston, spoke at the PTE Celebration as well. Mr. Turner referred to Span, Inc. as an institution “that makes a real difference in the community” and urged everyone to continue on in their hard work towards achieving equal opportunities for all. |
